Lucy (“Lucy Goosey”), the inspiration behind The Growing Goose

WHERE WE BEGAN

Our Story

The Growing Goose was inspired by someone very special to me: Lucy, or as I’ve always called her, “Lucy Goosey.” I have had the privilege of being part of Lucy’s life for the past 10 years as her PCA. Watching her grow and develop has profoundly shaped the person and therapist I am today. She has taught me the importance of celebrating progress, embracing individuality, and recognizing that every child’s growth looks different. She has also been a constant source of joy, perspective, and inspiration throughout my journey to becoming an occupational therapist.

The Growing Goose represents the belief that children thrive when they are supported, understood, and given the opportunity to grow in their own way. Inspired by Lucy and the many families I have had the privilege of working with, my goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based therapy while partnering closely with caregivers to help children build meaningful skills that carry into everyday life. The name is a tribute to where this journey began and to the little “goose” who inspired so much of what The Growing Goose stands for.

Kelsey Houle, OTR/L, Certified SOS Feeding Specialist

Owner & Pediatric Occupational Therapist

I’m Kelsey Houle, OTR/L, a Certified SOS Feeding Specialist, and the owner of

The Growing Goose. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Studies with a

minor in Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. I

bring many years of experience working with children with a broad range of

developmental, sensory, medical, and feeding needs. My clinical experience

includes working with children who are G-tube dependent, have rare medical and

genetic conditions, autism spectrum disorder, and other complex needs.

My practice is grounded in evidence-based care, family-centered collaboration,

and a strong commitment to caregiver education. I believe effective therapy

extends beyond the treatment session, which is why I prioritize equipping families

with practical strategies and the confidence to support their child in everyday life.

Through play-based therapy, I meet each child where they are and create

meaningful opportunities to build skills, increase participation, and support lasting

progress.

Where does therapy take place?

What is pediatric occupational therapy?

Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities and become more independent. Through individualized, play-based therapy, occupational therapists support children with motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, self-care, social participation, and other daily occupations. The goal is to help each child build confidence and successfully engage in the activities that are meaningful to them.

What is the SOS approach to feeding?

The SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding is a research-informed, child-centered approach designed to help children who struggle with eating and feeding. It looks at the whole child, addressing sensory processing, oral-motor skills, and the physical and emotional factors that can make eating difficult.

Through a gradual, supportive process, children are encouraged to explore foods at their own pace building comfort, confidence, and the skills needed for more successful mealtimes. The approach provides families with a structured, compassionate way to understand feeding challenges and support meaningful progress.
